Install CentOS, Kloxo, WebMin from the command line
I’ve had this blog post sitting for too long and don’t have plans for finishing it, it still may help someone so I figured I’d release it.
CentOS isn’t installed from the command line but it’s an OS… the rest are installed from the command line using help I found online.
This install was done using CentOS 5.5 I386
Boot the CentOS cd and follow the prompts, they did a good job on what they are asking so just read carefully. The important thing is not to install anything kloxo will install what it needs.
Network section
- Change your host name to something related to your domain and is easy to remember for your customers, server1.domain.com should work well.
- Edit your IP address and click the radio button next to manual and enter your static IP address and netmask (subnet, commonly 255.255.255.0 for networks behind a firewall)
The rest is straight forward just uncheck everything and click next.

Planning server and website consolidation
I changed tactics and went with self-hosting as I’ve had a few servers lying around. This was done a Fios connection with a multiple static IP’s.
I’ve been planning on consolidating my websites down to a single windows server until recently I discovered VMware ESX hosting at xlHost. Now I’m planning to move to one esx host and install two or more virtual machines for my needs. I basically want to keep what I have now, a reseller account with cpanel/whm and a windows virtual server. I love CPanel but not there prices so I’ve started looking for an alternet solution that will give me what I need, quick setup of new websites and easy management of these websites.
The search begins
I’m currently searching for a free or inexpensive replacement for cpanel and while I’m at it I’m also looking for a windows solution that has the same features. I’d also like any solution I find to have a module or plug-in to work with awbs or whmcs
